Maybe I'm picky
We had great seats; down on the ice. The venue was good, although nearly empty. The cast was limited to American skaters, with the notable exception of Kurt Browning of Canada. This was the first ice show I've seen in over 10 years and I mostly bought tickets to see Browning, Davis & White, Tinnell and the Shibutanis. The show started with a video - there were small screens in all corners of the arena. Videos were also shown intermittently through the show. I paid to see skating, not videos. The programs in the second half of the show were much better in terms of choreography and performance. Davis and White were stunning. Kurt Browning's "Singin' in the Rain" was exceptional, even with a fall on a triple toe loop (with umbrella in hand). At 52 years old, Browning can out-skate just about all younger skaters - actual skating/footwork. His new number "If You Could Read my Mind", needs a bit of work. There was too much stillness and the program didn't pull you in like his usual programs do. The Shibutanis, Hubbel and Douglas, Abbott, Zhou, Tinnell, Wagner and Nagasu were enjoyable to watch. There were no pairs teams. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I miss the days when there was an international cast. The last show I saw prior to this one was in Baltimore. There were champions from the USA, Japan, Russia, Ukraine, Canada, Italy, UK, Germany and more. I guess today, the only way to see them is at international competitions.
